In conjunction with the SIGNIS Asia Assembly, Kuala Lumpur, October 4-10, SIGNIS Asia held a seminar on the theme Promoting a Culture of Peace.
The seminar addressed social, political, economic and cultural perspectives on Peace.
Dr. Chandra Muzaffar, president of the International Movement for a Just World, presented a paper on "Working Towards Peace: A Political Perspective."
The seminar keynote speaker was Dato' (Dr.) Anwar Fazal, Senior Regional Advisor of the Urban Governance Initiative of the UN Development Programme.
The seminar concluded with the adoption of a Charter on Promoting a Culture of Peace Through Communicative Action. The Charter calls for the setting-up of a secretariat "for promoting a Culture of Peace to coordinate and sustain peace efforts among SIGNIS Asia members, and build partnerships with other organisations, world and regional people's forums."
